Students and staff from Ryerson and OCAD gathered together on 23 January 2019 at the first of four creativity workshops hosted by Creativity Everything in The Catalyst, the new hub for research and creative work in Ryerson University’s Faculty of Communication and Design.

For many of the participants, it was their first time learning how to bead. The workshop was led by Ziigwen Mixemong, who patiently showed the group beading techniques. In addition, participants learned Mixemong’s experiences of beading, how it has helped her personally, and spoke about how beading builds a sense of community, particularly within Indigenous community meetings.

It was a great experience overall, and the sense of community was there as participants helped each other through the workshop and shared their new beaded creations.
